Honestly? Did you jump out of bed with a spring in your step, excited about the day ahead? Or did you press the middle button hoping for nine more minutes on ‘snooze’? We’ve all had days when your duvet wins over the ‘to do list’. The danger comes when your duvet is winning more often. If that’s the case it’s time to make a change. I’m tempted to write a simple ‘five ways to help you jump out of bed every morning’ but that would only tackle the symptom. If you’re up to it I’d rather examine the cause. When was the last time you jumped out of bed because you were excited about your day? Not because you had an urgent appointment or a flight to catch, but because you were genuinely juiced up about another every day? If you’re thinking that that level of passion and excitement sounds like your every day then you’re officially in a wonderful minority. And if you’re not… you’d better read on. Ask anyone who has a wonderful every day and you’ll find they share one thing in common - they have a definite purpose. And it won’t be ambiguous like paying the bills, or going to work, it will be very specific – more of a mission. Have you noticed when you’re on a mission, bouncing out of bed is just the start of another brilliant every day? What’s your definite purpose? Have you found yours? Do you need one? Did you have one and lose it? Not sure you’d even notice your definite purpose if it jumped up and punched you on the nose? OK, so here’s the list. Five ways to help you find your definite purpose.
1) Sometimes the answer is closer than you think. Right in front of your eyes – open them up and take a look. 2) When you’re stretched you’re better. When your goal stretches you, you become more resourceful, focused and purposeful. 3) Make a public commitment to achieving a goal. When others know your plan (in most cases) they’ll be supportive and they’ll keep you in check. My purpose is to positively influence one million lives. 4) Be prepared to change. Some people find their purpose by starting on one mission and finding another (their true definite purpose) during their journey. 5) Still not sure? Join me for my one day How to Brilliant event in London on October 3rd 2009 and I guarantee you will leave with clear certainty of your definite purpose.
